What it means to keep something close
There is a difference between a thing you own and a thing you keep on you. The second one is chosen by the body rather than the eye — it has to sit well, weigh the right amount, and survive being slept in. Everything in this axis is sized and finished for that, not for a shelf.
The materials
Brass and silver are dense, which is why they register on the hand without being looked at. Carved forms are cut rather than cast, so the depth of the line varies where the tool went deeper. Worn against the body, untreated silver darkens in the places it touches and stays bright where it moves.
Forms that watch
Across the Himalayan region, carved guardian figures appear on doors, on roof corners, on the clasps of boxes, and on pendants. They are not portraits and they are not gods in the devotional sense. They are keepers — placed where something needs looking after.
